The story of this beautiful schooner, with a overall length of 82 feet, begins in Wiscasset Maine in 1926. After successfully racing in the New York Yacht Clubs Newport to Bermuda races, she was donated to the Merchant Marine Academy in 1940. Follower her military service, where she served as a training and submarine patrol duty vessel in World War II, Curlew gained recognition in 1962 by surviving a hurricane the claimed 144 other vessels.
In 1976 Curlew was meticulously restored in New Zealand and sailed to Hawaii for inter-island charters. Then in the 1980's, Curlew was placed in dry storage in the state of Washington, where she was discovered in 1989 by Pat and Marlene Russell. After an intensive 18 month restoration Curlew was sailing once again, stronger and more graceful than ever. Systems installation and reconstruction has been completed to the highest standards, surpassing the stringent United States Coast Guard safety requirements for carrying passengers for hire.
In July of 2002 Curlew changed owners again and is now under the careful guardianship of Robert Harrison Jr.
Curlew is U. S. Coast Guard inspected and certified to carry up to 35 passengers, (most comfortable with around 25), and is operated by her friendly crew of three. Perfect for day sailing, sunset cruises, birthday parties, corporate events, and more; Curlew promises a fun afternoon of sailing for everyone aboard!
