Welcome aboard our great selection of "bareboat" sailboats for charter. These well-equipped boats provide experienced sailors the opportunity to explore neighboring marinas and coastlines, which has often been called the “California Riviera” due to it’s unparalleled beauty. Vacations to the resort island of Santa Catalina, just 32 nautical miles from Dana Point Harbor, are available too!
Please note: we offer only sailboats for bareboat charter at this time. We do not allow any power yachts to be operated by anyone except our licensed Captains and crew.
- You must have current experience in open ocean on the same type and size of sailboat that you have an interest in chartering. I.E. You have experience on larger boats (30 feet or greater) with wheel steering, a diesel engine and a roller furling headsail. Our fleet is equipped in this way.
- You have had some type of prior formal training in the operation of these types of sailboats and that you were the Captain not just a deck hand. I.E. You have taken sailing lessons from an accredited sailing institution that taught you the right of way rules, anchoring, safety and seamanship training.
- Your resume of experience for prior boats that you've either owned or chartered shows you have enough knowledge that Dana Island Yachts believes you will have no problem sailing Southern California waters. You must also pass our written examination, a 15 question test proving that you have not forgotten what you have learned about sailing. Download resume/test >
- You must be able to post a security deposit of no less than $1,000.00 US Dollars. This can be done in the form of a credit card, cash, check, or a money order.
- A minimum of 2 persons is required to be on board during the charter.

 Based on your resume and written test results we will determine whether or not you meet our qualifications for bareboat sailboat chartering. If approved, your file will be kept on record and you may call us at any time to check availability and charter a boat.
In the event you're not approved we also offer charters with a Captain or sailboat lessons.
